Interface Sketch 5

The Instagram redesign would show trending hashtags instead of stories, would have the camera icon of instagram as the “access camera” location, and would not only show a NON ALGORITHM newsfeed, but would let you jump to their recent posts via side swipe!

Interface Sketch 4

Facebook redo 🙂 The idea is that you decide, before you’re hit with a barrage of information, what you’re going to see. (You can skip the set up.) Then once you get there, you can add filters while you’re going through. Then, you can delete all filters and just see the chaos that is the current facebook feed now. All the links to groups and events would be on the right, under the settings and “My Profile” buttons to keep the left side of the screen solely for newsfeed.

Stretch Quest 5: Curiosity Conversation

I am married to a creative person, a professional videographer. While we were both on campus chatting away we got into some pretty interesting topics about interface design. The topic of the conversation was about interface design but primarily how different the resources are between the business faculty (even the marketing experts) and the information design faculty. Sometimes we have these conversations and I get really awkward because I have a bit of a superiority complex with that stuff and I hate putting people I care about in a position where… I seem to be judging them. He showed me some examples of HORRIBLE interfaces that his profs requested the students use as primary portals for their work and I just died. My whole body cringed and I felt infuriated that people don’t care enough about the usability of their interfaces to make them functional enough.

Anyways. My discomfort only increased to like a 4 afterwards, but it was an enlightening though difficult conversation. 01399930-DC25-4BE9-842E-EA67C57EEB1E.JPG

Stretch Quest 4: Creative

Part of my job includes a weekly creative personal development activity that the manager creates guidelines for. We just did an activity using the software Sculptris. When they announced it, I was at a level 5 discomfort. I didn’t get to be there for any of the tutorials and it was a 3D modelling activity. There’s decent amount of competition when doing creative activities. Anyways… my discomfort got worse once I posted my WIP and then I saw my boss’s WIP. Below is the post I had to make of my model.

Stretch Quest 3: Mental

As a part of my mental stretch quest, I learned the ENTIRETY of my astrological … history? sign?

I DON’T like being told what to do when I think that what I’m being told is stupid. And so, I was worried it’d be a huge waste of time. Comfort =3 for sure. After finishing it up though… I felt so enlightened and inspired! A 1 or a 0 on the discomfort. I don’t really know if I am supposed to get more uncomfortable or less uncomfortable after these things…

Stretch Quest 2: Physical

Gratefully, I didn’t have to do this stretch quest alone. I did an escape room where I was in charge of deciphering an audio track that corresponded to colours. The pattern of the colours related to letters. The letters cracked a code. At the beginning of the challenge I felt about a 3 in discomfort. It increased to a five once I realized I didn’t have my glasses on and the room was loud so it was difficult to hear the audio track!  The design was RIDICULOUS and I was sure we weren’t going to make it, but we did! Physical.jpg

Stretch Quest 1: Professional

Professional:

This stretch quest was me having to stand up for myself and my UI/UX design decisions to two of my work superiors. I work remotely so I had to call a video conference meeting with the two of them and I was like a solid 5 on the discomfort scale. After conducting the meeting and having to  say, I was so surprised at how validated I felt. I felt brave. My discomfort went down to a 1. It was a video conference so I couldn’t take a screenshot without being even more awkward, so I just took a screenshot of me asking for the meeting!
